Thanks everyone for the supportive comments. While the court process may have taken a step in our direction, our experience with social services has not. In fact we seem to be more in the dark about what is happening than at any point in this process. We have also experienced a real deterioration in our relationships with individuals in social services. I am about to post a pretty dark view of the foster care system in relation to our experience with our local social services agency.

To usgirls: whatever you do in this process make sure that you arm yourself with information. Often that means keeping up on the regulations in your state with regard to the role of foster parents and the court process. I would also encourage you to establish good relationships where you can. We (along with other foster parents we know) have had good relationships with social workers who made the initial placement and did the followup on the care of our foster child. Case workers assigned to your foster child for the long-term and those that help you keep your certification can be problematic (from just unresponsive to downright abusive). Take care in handling those relationships from the start. Most importantly, get to know your foster child's court appointed attorney. Often they are an incredible wealth of information and may even become an advocate for you--even in the courtoom.

It breaks my heart that the process is so difficult, but I'm so touched by your obvious love for your son and your determination to go the distance. The very best of luck to you on this journey!

This sounds like good news, for the most part, so I'm praying for you all that reason prevails and Ty is placed with you for ever and always at the end of the summer.
